Little Miss Munchkin's Big Girl Cake

Sweet baby Munch turns 1 in about a month {oh the tears}, so I am currently thinking about what cake she should have at her big bash. I want to make it, so I can't get all fondant fancy as I haven't the faintest clue how to do that. Even so, I LOVE this sort of look and design - girly but not too little girly or over-the-top. Quite sophisticated, actually, just like the Little Miss!

Which is your favorite? Do you have any other ideas along these lines? And while we're on the topic, who do you think is the most talented baker in the DFW area?

  1. OMG these cakes are awesome. You could easily make the one on the bottom ... okay, maybe EASY is a bit of a stretch, but find some organic not sketchy red food coloring and create the four different pinks of frosting, then just use a piping bag with a special tip to do the swirls!!!!!

Also my friends Shannon and Kyle got married at the Belo Mansion in December '09 and they used Bronwen Weber... their cake was amazing!

  9. Sheridan, I absolutely love the pink ruffle one on the top right! I actually took this picture to every bakery in Fort Worth in May for our daughter's first, (except Sublime because she was at a Food Network event), and everyone was intimidated to try it:( I'm sure there's someone you can find to brave it, especially the wedding cake making types. I just adore it, and think nothing could be more precious for a first birthday cake!

  10. Gorgeous cakes! Though I am a Fort Worth native, my favorite cake in DFW is from Panini Bakery on Sherry Lane in Dallas. http://www.paninicakes.com/visit.htm
Their best cake is the strawberry cream cake- fresh sliced strawberries and real hand whipped whipping cream in between layers of vanilla cake with a white butter cream frosting. I'm sure they could do pink if you would like! :) I wish I had a slice right now!

  11. I have to second Miss Leah Cichocki (Leah's Sweet Treats)! The things she does with fondant are nothing short of amazing (have you seen her blog?!). She did Clara's cake/cupcakes for her first birthday, and they were both delicious and beautiful!
