Lovely Gems

Image courtesy of Merrick Jewels

I have slowly gotten more and more into jewelry over the past years {Miu Miu's lovely creations have a lot to do with that!} and I have come across a lot of fun finds I wanted to share with you all. This also ties in with my last issue as Fashion Editor at Fort Worth, Texas Magazine - sad day, but I just have too much on my plate and had to part ways with the wonderful staff there.

I sat down with Merrick Bean of Merrick Jewels for the October issue and I was SO excited to finally do an official interview with her. She is from Fort Worth and went to CDS, and has totally taken the jewelry world by storm here! I used her creations for my Spring 2011 lookbook shoot and they hit it out of the park. Check out the full interview here {page 46} where I asked her about her life, her style and, of course, Beyonce. She is just the sweetest ever, and make sure to take a look at her website for just a handful of her gorgeous designs. My favorites are the ones with the super huge heavy stones on them, like the beautiful grey toned one above! I have seen this on one of my friends in person in a gorgeous milky green shade and it is AMAZING x a million.

I also came across a site that will cause hours of distraction time {since we all have so much spare time on our hands} where you can create your own jewelry and play play play around with different metal and stone combos to your heart's content: Sheyna Jewelry. The sweet girls there gifted me with a lovely pair of earrings that I got to create myself and they arrived just this week - I have been wearing them non-stop!! I went with green onyx stone drops on simple gold hoops. They go with everything! The best part about Sheyna is that you can really tailor your design to your price range - you can truly spend anywhere from $5 to $5000. There is no limit to your creativity!

Now get ready for this one: Sara of Noble House Designs has some neon in store for us! Check our her etsy shop here and prepare to die. I want one of, oh, everything! My favorite has to be this piece, called Neon Vintage, and I don't care if it would poke Munchkin's eye out - she has two, after all, so it would be a fair sacrifice for this beauty. The agate earrings are knockout too.

My favorite thing about all of these designers is that you will walk away with a truly individual piece. What could be better than a perfect expression of your own style?? Have fun shopping!

Fossil Rim

We did a super impromptu trip to Fossil Rim out in Glen Rose this weekend and it was AWESOME. All I remembered from going when I was a kid were the ostrich {because they bit my finger} and giraffes, so I was shocked to get there and see it's a virtual African safari! Gemsbok, Kudu, Bontebok, Blackbuck Antelope and Rhinos abound, just to name a very very small handful of the 60 species of animals out there. {And how proud of Squish were we when he named nearly all of them, even if he did call the Emu a Kudu at first}.

I now know why I mainly remember the giraffe. They are overwhelming and breathtaking! We were so lucky to have one poke its head right into our car - sunroof here is such a great asset! - and it hung around for ages. It was an incredible experience for me and Biz, let alone Squish to look at it face to face. What a gorgeous and truly amazing animal. Just beautiful, and look how BIG she is! As she was walking around the back of the car and I could only see legs, I instantly felt like I was in Jurassic Park where the water in the glass is shaking. It was incredible and scary at the same time, because you just feel so minute compared to such an enormous and powerful animal.

She was as sweet and as timid as she could be, and don't even get me started on her eyelashes. Girl had it going on.

I took about 1000 are some of my favorites...

In between the animals, Squish climbed into the back seat and giggled with Munch non-stop. He can make her start to laugh like no one else can! To the mommies out there, isn't it amazing to see how close your children are and witness that special connection?? Ahhh it just melts my heart every time.

I don't care if you are 2 or 22 or 52, you will really enjoy a trip out to Fossil Rim. It is worth the drive! {Just over an hour from Fort Worth} I would recommend going first thing in the morning - they open at 8:30am every day of the week, even Sunday - to get the animals when they are fresh and moving about. Don't forget to charge your camera!!

Miuccia Does It Again

Images courtesy of

Oh my GOSH I have been the worst blogger! My first order submission deadline is fast approaching so work has taken a front seat this past week, but then the Prada S/S 2012RTW show came along and obviously everything in my life stops in its tracks to pay attention to what Miuccia came up with.

She did it again. As in, blew everyone else out of the water, created completely unexpected pieces using images that no one else would dream of using, and still made everything look seriously darn good. I mean, 1950s cars? Really?? With rhinestones? Any other design brainstorm session where someone suggested, "Hey! Let's put classic cars on satin jackets with a bunch of rhinestones, and little tail lights on the shoes with some flames thrown in!!" would be fired in a second, but Miuccia is like, "GENIUS! I love it. Let's run with it!" Take a look...

Can you just imagine how breathtakingly beautiful these pieces are in person? One thing I learned while working at the Prada press office was this: pay attention to what she does people, because other designers will be copying it for years. YEARS. She knows what she's doing {and everyone else knows this, too}. Oh Miuccia. If I could swap my brain out with anyone else's in the entire world, I'd pick yours.

View the entire runway show here on, including the drool-inducing detail shots.

How I Wore It :: Birthday Dinner

Anyone remember this blog post I did a few months ago on the Miu Miu Glitter Booties that would surely change my life? I hinted there that they just might maybe possibly perhaps be my most wanted birthday present...and guess who reads my blog after all ;)

That's right. Sweet darling Biz. I wore them to my birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant in the world, Lonesome Dove {yes, I'd take it over anything in Paris, Rome or NYC} and even though everyone else there was wearing cowboy boots, I felt perfectly at ease with my glitter-drenched tootsies.

{best part of this pic is the huge boogie dripping out of his nose...scrummy}

Can't wait to show you the turquoise necklace he got me as well! It was a very happy birthday dinner, but best part about it was getting back home to the babies.

Fashion Week Favorites

Just a selection of my favorites so far! I NEED those Oscar de la Renta earrings, and I don't know about you, but I think that sunshine yellow dress could totally be rocked down the aisle.

J. Crew's collection - and I mean this in the nicest way possible {really} - makes me want to pour some Pepto Bismol all over me. LOVE that color of pink, especially when paired with yummy shades of tangerine and coral!!

Reader Request :: My Closet! {jewelry}

And to round up the week of a peek inside my closet: Jewelry! I did not really think I was a jewelry person...until I met Biz. Truth be told, he has spoiled me rotten with the most gorgeous gems and fancies every girl dreams of, and I cherish each piece beyond description. The very last bracelet on here just might be my most special treasure in my entire jewelry collection...and I explain why on the video :)

This was the last time I wore the Prada clip-ons I mention...

...I was five months pregnant with Miss Munch and at a dear friend's wedding in Rhode Island. I get a little excited on the dance floor, especially when I am given free neon sunglasses. {Thanks Walton} Fun Fact: Alexandra, my friend in the pics, was actually the hair and makeup artist for the Spring 2011 lookbook shoot in Miami! Talented gal!! Here is her website link if anyone in the NYC area needs some help in that realm.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these clips as much as I have enjoyed sharing them, and please, keep your great reader requests coming!

Reader Request :: My Closet! {clutches + scarves}

So now you get to see the messy part of my closet :) When we moved in, there were no shelves anywhere in the closet {aside from the shoe shelves}, so I had to do something for my t-shirts, pj's, sweaters, etc. I never even had them painted and threw everything on them in big piles...and things have hardly moved since!

Even though I am a shoe addict as far as accessories go, I absolutely love my scarves {you won't find me during winter time without one}. I also have a handful of clutches that I adore as well, particularly the green leather Marc Jacobs with the little gold frog - I wear this with EVERYTHING!

Reader Request :: My Closet! {fave dresses}

Dress day! Enjoy!

Also, I have a favor to ask of you. I never, ever do this, but one of my sweet friends from England {who was the camera woman for these video's actually!} is currently on her own Mission: Get Healthy and Fit {and is doing so awesome by the way - she records her journey on her own blog} has submitted an entry to carry the Olympic Torch in London. Talk about ambitious much?! If you would, check out her short video here and "like" it on Facebook {the link to like is to the left of the video}. The person with the most likes wins. She deserves this and I want to help her reach her goal however I can!

Reader Request :: My Closet! {shoes}

Some women are purse gals, some are jewelry gals...I am a shoe gal. Here are just a few of my very favorite pairs for you to take a peek at! I could have spent an hour talking about them all {does that sound as pathetic as I think it does?!} I love me some shoes!! If any of you haven't seen them before, here is a close-up of my wedding shoes:

Reader Request: My Closet!

My two biggest reader requests I get are to peek inside my closet, or see my favorite pieces of my wardrobe. Well, today's the day! Plus, I actually had time to wash AND crimp my hair so this was a tres special occasion. I started with my two favorite jackets, but I will continue to post a short video clip every day this week to cover shoes, dresses, bags and jewelry. Enjoy! Here's a photo of me wearing the gold Etro jacket when I was nearly 8 months pregnant with Munch. It helped my daily winter pregnancy wardrobe of black t-shirt, black leggings, black uggs and black beanie look a bit fancier ;) The leather jacket is D&G.

OH also - iMovie automatically stabilizes the film if the camera was wiggly, and in doing so zooms in a bit, hence why I am cut off in part of this. But you still get to see the jacket which is all that matters :))) Next time I promise I will speak louder and more clearly! {and I'll clean up the messy mud room so you don't have to see clothes scattered everywhere...} Happy Labor Day!
